1. Global questions Q: Why do I need to be active on your forums? First of all, we need to cover our costs. Instead of placing advertisements on your websites, we place them on our own website. Of course, this is not the main reason we require forum posting. You will most likely see that after posting a bit, you will start to enjoy posting on our forums. Without the original requirement, this would have never happened. And with an active community, every user will get a quick response to his questions and problems. Q: What does "being active on our forums" exactly mean? We understand by "being active", that you visit our forums regularly and post something from time to time. A common mistake made by some users is that we appreciate quantity over quality. Quality posts tend to give a healthy orientation to the discussion and make our forums a place where people like posting. Posts without a clear use are thus not allowed. Your 'activeness' is measured by AP (Active Points). Negative Points mean that you are not active enough. You will get 2 warnings before your account may be cancelled. After a cancellation due to inactivity you may always request a new account when you're back. The calculation of the AP is made that way that every user who posts regularly will never reach negative Points. Once you reach the maximum number of posts, it may take several months before an account cancellation is even considered; so there is no need to worry about your account unless you plan to never come back. Top Q: Which languages are allowed for my website? We only allow English on our forums currently. Top Q: Do I have to put a link to BLORC on my website? You certainly don't have to link to us, it still remains your own website. However, we do appreciate it, if you could link back to us. Top 2. Hosting Requests Q: How do I apply for an account? Once you have 5 quality posts and 10 points, you may apply through the Hosting Forum. Q: May I apply for a second account? No, only one hosting account is allowed per person/ip address. That's why it is advised to use only one account per family. There will be more than enough bandwidth and space for your whole family. If you really need two separate accounts per IP, please contact us. However, they may never be accessed by the same person. Q: May I apply for hosting with a domain? Yes, you may. However, applying for hosting with our subdomain is advised. Q: Why do I need 5 posts before requesting a hosting account? First of all, this is to prevent abuse from hackers and spammers. Secondly, being active on our forums is required to keep your hosting. By posting 5 non-spam posts, you show that you are willing to remain active in here. Top 3. Forum-related questions Q: What may my signature contain? Your signature may only contain one single image to reduce its size. You may promote your website in your signature, but no affiliate links/banners are allowed. Q: What is qualified as spam?
Q: May I double post? No. You may not double post. If you posted a message and you want to add something, just press the edit button and add it in your previous message. Q: What are 'points'? You gain points and AP by posting in the forum. Points allow you to buy upgrades to your hosting package e.g. for 50 points you can get a 100MB bandwidth upgrade, another 50 points & you get another 10MB space upgrade! Q: What is 'AP'? 'AP' stands for 'Active Points'. They are used to determine how active you are. Everyone starts with -25 AP. By posting in the forum, you get more 'AP's and as long as your AP is not negative by the time of the Activeness Review, you shouldn't worry about them. The hosting accounts of users with negative AP may be removed. You can't trade or exchange AP. Every month, there'll be an 'Activeness Review' for forummers who have a hosting account with us. This is the time when Two email warnings are sent at -20 and -25 AP. This is also the time when all your APs will be reset to -25, so that we know that you'll remain active for the next month. Your account may be removed after those two warnings if you are still inactive. Please note that AP is only an indication of your activeness. BLORC uses it to indicate possible inactive users. No account is removed automatically. Top Q: How do you calculate 'points' or 'AP'?
The more friends you refer, the more points you can get and the faster you can get your upgrades! 4. Hosting-related questions Q: Where can I get a free domain? You won't find one on the internet. The only free tld you may get is a .info domain. They are sometimes given away in a promotion. But you always have to give your credit card number. However, domains are relatively cheap lately. You may get one for less then 10$ a year. Q: What are the mail settings? Both pop3 and smtp are mail.yoursubdomain.blorc.com. Your username is the username@yoursubdomain.blorc.com and the password the one you made in cpanel for that specific username. Please go to your Cpanel or DirectAdmin documentation if you need more documentation about this. Q: How do I connect to cpanel? You can either go to http://yoursubdomain.blorc.com/cpanel/ or http://yoursubdomain.blorc.com:2082/. You need to replace yoursubdomain with your actual subdomain or yoursubdomain.blorc.com with your domain if you applied with a domain. You should have gotten a pm with a link to your cpanel. Q: What are your nameservers and how do I use them? These are given on a case-by-case basis. Only active accounts may apply. You only need them if you want to host your domain with us. To do this, send us a PM/email & then go to your domain registrar(where you registered the domain), search for a page where you can enter nameservers for your new domain. Most of the time it is called "Nameserver setup", "DNS management" or "DNS registration". After doing this and waiting for the domain to propagate on the internet, you will be able to use your brand new domain. Q: How can I install Wordpress/Mambo?
Fantastico should be making the installation of those programs as easy as possible. Top |
